Penn State Libraries Sports Archives Presentation

Join us on Saturday October 18th for a presentation by Jackie Esposito, University Archivist on PSU's effort to establish the Penn State Sports Archive.

"Success is where preparation and opportunity meet" (Bobby Unser): The Penn State Sports Archives Story

In 1988, the Penn State University Archives began a concentrated effort to locate, identify and preserve historical records that would document the growth of athletic policies and the achievements of Penn State teams. The result of this effort was the establishment of the Penn State Sports Archives, unrivaled in its scope and serving scholars, networks, administrators, and students worldwide. This presentation will identify the strengths of the Penn State Sports Archives featuring archival materials from as early as the 1860s. Highlights of the overview will be clips of early (1929) football games, women’s intercollegiate athletics 50th anniversary, Penn State Olympians, and the many areas in which Penn State excelled throughout the decades.

Jackie Esposito, University Archivist, has over thirty years of archival and records management experience. She has been serving as both faculty and administrator for the Penn State University Archives since 2001. She joined the faculty of the University Libraries in July 1991 and was promoted to Full Librarian/Professor in 2014. Esposito co-authored the Association of Research Libraries Managing Born-Digital Archives and Special Collections Spec Kit (2012)and Penn State’s ElectRar: Electronic Records Repository Specifications Report (2010), presented several conference papers on team management of born-digital records utilizing the Matryoshka (Russian Nesting) dolls theory and served on the development team for the Society of American Archivist’s Digital Archivist Certificate Curriculum Program. Among her other publications is the acclaimed, The Nittany Lion: An Illustrated Tale (Penn State Press).
